"A portrait of Audrey, once a week, every week, in 2013"

Enjoying your obligatory Bunnings sausage sandwich with such concentration, not spilling one little crumb. You absolutely love Bunnings but what we cant figure out is which part is your favourite. The mini trolleys you happily push along? The children's play area? The paint sample wall full of colour? The delicious sausage sandwiches? Perhaps a combination of it all and the excitement of working on a new project with your Mumma and Dadda...

The outstretched limbs of Maile waiting for spring filled my heart with happiness. I love this pic of the anticipation of warmer weather and I love Katie's 'rough neck' blog!

Today.

Today is April 25th, Anzac day. It is always on this day that I reflect and remember my Gran, Audrey's great grandmother, who she missed out on meeting by a matter of months. We had hoped to attend a dawn service in memory of her but the last few weeks have been extremely busy with little sleep and we have all been feeling a little under the weather. Instead we had a slow family day, Luke's cousin and her partner came over for lunch with news they are expecting! We exchanged stories of the first trimester and the first scan, I shared my memories of the months ahead and they left with a mountain of baby supplies under their arm. The afternoon was spent tending to the latest edition on our quest for sustainable living, the new garden bed with Autumn/Winter veggies.
A simple family day was just what we all needed and it gave me time to sit with my cup of tea and remember one of the strongest women I have ever had the pleasure to share my life with, my Gran.

Love, Elle.

Small Spaces.

We are in the middle of a beautiful new space for our creative frog but are waiting on something very special to arrive from Bellingen. So today I don't have a space ready to show you but I do have a great little activity that everybody loves....

The beauty of play dough is you can make it and play with it anytime of year, inside or out. I have been meaning to make my own dough for Audrey ever since I saw a pin on Pinterest that lead me here. But it wasnt until I stumbled across a beautiful post on Oscarlucinda that I got around to making some of my own. The post motivated me into action as it talked about childhood art education, the value of having quality materials and the luxury of time. There is nothing more rewarding then hand making something for your child. As I was kneading the dough for Audrey I was filled with a sense of achievement that I was providing her with an activity that was not only fun but educational.

Love, Elle

* I chose cacao, turmeric, blueberries and beetroot to colour the dough and lavender essential oil for a beautiful aroma

You love to help me cook, especially if its something sweet or play dough. As you grow older you are getting more and more confident in your pouring and mixing skills and I love watching you lick the spoon with delight!

How can you not smile at this new brother curiously checking out his baby sisters toes over at hello sisilia.. And those lips! Those sweet newborn lips..

Peas In A Pod.

I love watching the relationship between Audrey and Luke grow and flourish. They share a passion for music and animals, they are both outgoing and love the outdoors, she looks to him for protection and for laughs and they could easily spend hours rolling around and giggling on the floor. They are cut from the same mould, two little peas in a pod...

After spending two weeks at home with Luke I could see her pining for him all day today as he returned to work. Every hour or so she would put down whatever she was busying herself with, climb up on the lounge, look out the window and yell "Dadda? Dadda?"

A Letter For Tomorrow.

To My Grownup Child,

As I sat in the cafe with you by my side I could not help but be disheartened by the conversation happening to our left. A mother sat with her son who seemed to have just moved out of home to attend Uni. As they sat together I couldn't help but notice his crumpled, soiled clothes and the worried look on his mothers face. Over their meal he told her about his lectures and classes, his house mates and previous weeks away from home. I listened as she probed him about what he was eating, did he have enough money, was he getting enough sleep. He was quick to dismiss her questions and hurry the lunch along as if he had somewhere better to be. I listened to her attempts to get him to come home for a night or two. Promises of new clothes, of money, of take away food, all of which fell on deaf ears. As we got up to leave he was declining her last attempt to spend time with him, the offer of a lift to the train station. I held you close, as close to my heart as I could and prayed for life to slow down, the thought that one day you may not want to spend time with me crushing my heart.

My dear child, there will come a time in our life when the request of lunch or afternoon tea with your old Mum may seem tedious and boring. I am sure you will have more exciting things to do and more interesting people to see but humour me a while, after all a free lunch cant be that bad. I will never be too busy for you, never dismiss your need to talk, I will forever be by your side (whether near or far) and I will always be interested in what is going on in your life. Because dear child, you are my life.

Love Always, Your Mumma

"A portrait of Audrey, once a week, every week, in 2013"

You are very lucky to have a great grandmother who spoils you with beautiful knits for the winter. With the weather cooling quickly we went to visit her for afternoon tea to choose a few styles to be lovingly made for you.

I am a frequent visitor to Greer's page, I adore her girls names and the way she themes her photos each week. Greer can not only take beautiful photos but is a very talented knitter. Her bonnets are to die for and a must for any little ones winter wardrobe.

Small Spaces.

As the days become shorter and the sun sets earlier on our afternoons we find ourselves retreating indoors sooner. Chalk is left scattered on the pavement, her rock collection carefully hidden and leaves, flowers and sticks make a pattern that will be blown away overnight.

In an effort to allow our frog to continue being creative over the winter months we have been looking to the corners of our home to find special places where we can nurture her passion. She is still young so I like her to be close to me as I prepare our families meals, clean and pursue my own passion to create. However our home is only small (cosy) and trying to find room for these spaces has been challenging.

Over the coming months I will be showing you ways we have found to incorporate creative spaces for little ones with limited room. Up first, a chalk board. Audrey loves to draw on the pavement with her chalk but there was no way we could fit a chalk board in our already packed lounge room. After bouncing ideas off one another and pouring over images on pinterest Luke and I came up with the following solution....

Love, Elle

Children are not the people of tomorrow, but people today. They are entitled to be taken seriously. They have a right to be treated by adults with tenderness and respect, as equals. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be - the unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future.

Where The Heart Is...

They say home is where the heart is, well my heart is torn in two...

I love our little home nestled among the green hills and neighbour to the jersey cows. We are less then half an hour from where I was born and raised and the memories that surround me warm my heart. It is the first home Luke and I bought together, we have lived here through our engagement, planned our wedding here and brought our frog home here. We have made many life long friends and are within minutes to some of Australia's most beautiful forests and beaches.

Yet there is a gentle hum within me yearning for a change that I can no longer deny. We spent our Easter celebrating and loving life in Bellingen, my hubby's home town. It is a simple town where its residents walk to a slower beat and stop to appreciate life and each other. People believe in organic, clean living and the hills are lined with fresh produce. I can see myself and my family easily fitting into place in this sleepy town and feel its gentle pull more and more each time we visit.

Here are a few snaps from our time in Bello and Easter celebrations. I am sure you will see why a piece of me is in this beautiful town...
